From Procrastination to Productivity: ADHD in a Professional Workplace
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) was once recognized as a condition experienced predominantly by children, especially boys. However, it is now known that ADHD is common among adults, regardless of gender. ADHD poses a challenge to professional success, and it creates problems in workplaces such as missed deadlines, failure to complete projects, employee turnover, and loss of trust in relationships. It is estimated that at least 5 percent of adults struggle with ADHD. This means that nearly everyone works with someone, knows someone, lives with someone, or loves someone with ADHD. I will discuss how ADHD is more than a disorder, and that ADHD brains typically have great capacity and potential for achievement. I will describe my principles of how ADHD can be managed and customized for successful careers. I will also describe things that employers and coworkers should know about those with ADHD. Managing ADHD requires more than merely learning new skills but also requires creating conditions for success through externalizing executive function. Many of these lessons can be applied to anyone to improve executive function, time management, and productivity.
The event will feature a private event space, cash bar, and delicious appetizers to enjoy while mingling with other guests. Don't forget to bring plenty of business cards to exchange with your new connections. Parking is free and easily accessible in the designated parking lot.

Speaker Bio:Daniel is an environmental scientist who has worked as a consultant for public and private clients for 30 years. Diagnosed as an adult, he realized that his ADHD has been both a challenge and an asset that significantly influenced his career. He survived college, a masters degree, and completion of a doctorate in botany despite the challenges posed by ADHD. As he moved through his academic career, progress became harder to achieve as structure decreased and education became more depend on one's executive function to operate independently. Now, as a biologist, he views the world, including ADHD and human brain function, through a lens of genetics, ecology, and evolutionary biology. After gaining public speaking experience through Toastmasters and at technical conferences, he has launched a professional speaking endeavor, as "Don't ADHD Alone'" to work with others to understand ADHD and help those with ADHD succeed professionally. His experience is applicable to students and professionals, and he offers ways to improve student retention, success, and graduation, and ways for employees and employers to improve the performance and contribution of neurodivergent individuals in the workplace.
